Reading University approached us to carry out essential repairs to two four storey listed buildings located within a conservation area on their London Road campus. The buildings have been vacant for several years and are awaiting future remodelling works.
Our brief was to carry out essential roofing works providing solutions to prevent future leaks and damage. After initial inspection some rot had been discovered within the roofs timber, this was resolved by timber replacements. We also had to provide new roof tiles and carry out re-pointing on a number of chimney pots. We identified that the four different roofs had both clay and slate tile finishes which have been rationalised and specified to coordinate with historic information following research in the university archive library. Works started in Dec 2008 once we achieved listed building consent.
As the works progressed surveys were carried out to identify further defects that needed to be addressed. |
