Slough Sure Start Service working on behalf of Slough Borough Council, approached us the carry out feasibility studies locating urban sites for six new graduated children's centres to support the disadvantaged communities in Slough. Once sites were approved we were assigned to design and project manage the construction of the new centres. The facilities would include a crèche area for 0-5 years, fully secure play areas, adult education room IT facilities, administration office space and a small consultation room.
The centres provide access to health services, including health visiting, midwifery and speech and language therapy. There's parent and toddler groups in all centres, and a wide range of family support services. The programme also assists parents in their aspiration towards employment and encourages further education.
The council's programme was demanding, requiring the delivery of all three facilities to meet a tight schedule and within a very restrictive budget. The Borough's initial appraisal was that a least two of the facilities would be provided by TEK Haus Building System to achieve the continued appearance that the client is aspiring to in the borough. |
