We were approached by the University of Reading to undertake both internal and external upgrades on Building L033, based within a conservation area on their London Road Campus.
The main changes were made to the fenestration, in order to improve aesthetic appearance as well as meeting new environmental guidelines. A combination of glazing, timber panels and aluminium louvers make up the new façades, thus giving a bold contemporary look to this 1940's building.
Internally, a new corridor was introduced on the ground floor to break the large front room into three more usable rooms for teaching and research purposed. In addition a lift was introduced to provide access for all users (the lift is also a fire evacuation lift). The client requested that male and female facilities with showering and disability provisions be designed and coordinated within the building works, thus creating accessible facilities to support the sustainable travel plan.
This was part of a scheduled programme of works which entailed upgrade to Buildings L04 and L011 for seminar, meeting rooms and offices to allow full vacation of Building L033.
