We were appointed to design innovative, sustainable dwellings on a challenging, awkward site comprising of a strip of copse situated within a built-up urban setting in Sonning Common, Berkshire.

We responded to the challenge with the creation of a sustainable building comprising of three-storey residential units, housing four dwellings: two three-bedroom houses, one-one bedroom ground floor flat and two-bedroom/storey maisonette. The built form is respectful and forward looking response to a sensitive site which was only possible as a result of detailed analysis of the site and its history.

Through the use of sustainable materials and technologies, renewable energy resources and implementing ecological management strategies (inc. natural light and ventilation control), our proposed scheme realises a vision to retain the existing woodland nature of the site and improve the aspect of the immediate neighbouring properties whilst achieving the ultimate goal of providing contemporary, sustainable dwellings. Ultimately the building responds positively to the specific site characteristics and constraints and provides solutions to the concerns of current and future human impact on the environment.
